An Outstanding Church School

Mrs Cowling will be absent from school due to a planned knee operation from Monday the 30th October returning after a phased recovery towards the later part of the half term.

Mrs Cairns will be deputising in her absence and Mrs Cowling will remain in close contact with the school.

Sports funding is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to provide sporting activities for pupils.

Harrogate School Sports Partnership

(HSSP)

Whole School and Staff Courses available via the HSSP for staff to upskill. A comprehensive competition calendar for pupils from Year 1 to Year 6, which covers a wide variety of sports. A progression from level 1 competition to level 3 competition. Support for School Sports Coordinator. Opportunity to loan equipment for intra competitions and for taster sessions for new sports. Opportunities for gifted and talented pupils to attend workshops. Sports Crew training for Year 5 or Year 6 Pupils. 26%            

 

As of the beginning of March 2017 we have 45.5% of funding available for the funding year 2016-17. We are currently trying to source and fund a large storage container to replace the large wooden shed to store all the PE Equipment in.

 

Monitoring - regular agenda item at Governing Body meetings and Finance meetings, reporting in more detail on pupils reports, staff and pupil questionnaires, assessment, comparative data year on year.

How these improvements are sustainable:-

  • Gained Gold Award 2016-2017 – keep this level of sport in school as a regulated audit through the Youth Sports Trust completed annually.
  • Annual timetable of KS2 “intra” sports embedded into the school calendar
  • Sports crew embedded into the school to help with all intra sports and running lunchtime clubs.
  • Implementation of Real PE across the school has upskilled staff to ensure quality PE is provided to all children from reception to year 6.
  • Offer of KS2 clubs throughout the year of netball, multi-skills, football and athletics.

For the whole school to enhance the PE in school. 

Intra school competition - medals / trophies. Nursery to ensure the pupils in nursery have age appropriate equipment.

Higher quality PE delivered with the correct equiepment for all pupils. A more comprehensive range of sporting equipment ie spingboard for pupils to enhance and enrich their PE provision.

Medals and trophies to ensure PE is a valued aspect of the school curriculum and that intra competitions will be part of the school sporting calendar each year.

Nursery have their own PE equipment to use daily in the hall and outside. Purchase of age appropriate wheeled toys.

2014 / 2015

For the academic year 14/15 we received £8430 in sports funding.

Bishop Monkton C of E Primary School has used this additional funding to:

  • join the Schools Sports Partnership 
  • invest in the Playmaker Award for pupils
  • provide quality coaching through employment of specialist dance and gymnastic teachers.
  • invest in better sports equipment in the school
  • attend sporting activities at local sporting establishments eg Headingley Cricket Ground
  • in collaboration with Sports for Champions and Olympic Athlete Rebekah Wilson the school participated in a sponsored fitness event.

In 2014-15 the sports funding provision had the following impact:

  • Membership of Schools Sports Partnership enabled pupils to access high level sporting competitions such as the Hydro Swimming Gala
  • Bronze Kite Award achieved, Silver Kite award pending
  • Playmakers Award achieved, resulting in greater provision at playtimes and the promotion of leadership skills
  • Specialist dance teaching motivated all pupils giving greater confidence
  • Sport for Champions brought inspiration and successfully raised money

2013 / 2014

For the academic year 13/14 we received £8450 in sports funding. 

At Bishop Monkton C of E Primary School we used this additional funding in the following way.

  • up-skill teachers to improve the quality of sport lessons
  • invest in quality coaching through employment of specialist sports coach and PE Teacher 
  • provide more opportunities for pupils to take part in inter-school competitions
  • offer more after-school clubs
  • purchase better equipment
  • introduce new and unusual sports like climbing to encourage more children to enjoy sport

 In 2013-14 the sports funding provision had the following impact:

  • Improved staff knowledge, giving teachers greater confidence and the skills to teach PE successfully
  • Gymnastics team represented the Ripon cluster schools at the Harrogate District final
  • Submission of Bronze Kite Award
  • Increased enjoyment from pupils evidenced through attendance at extra-curricular sports club
